When I lived in Skokie IL, I had a neighbor who used to work in a call center. She said there was nothing worse than when she had to call Georgia. When she called they could tell by her voice that she is an immigrant and it pissed them off. You may be assuming the Georgians just hate Mexicans. But my former neighbor is polish, and we can assume they weren't confused by the accent. So I will dismiss those who dismiss anti-immigration sentiment as racism. I am not going to make an emotional take on immigration and I am not going to speculate on what is in the heart of others. Im much more interested in looking at immigration as part of a market...specifically the labor market. like other markets labor is subject to supply and demand. As the supply of workers go up the salary we can demand goes down, In this market we are competing against eachother at one time we could market ourselves as quality product by getting a degree That strategy is no longer niche. Most people dont think that a degree holders job is affected by immigration. Butindustry has been importing brain power for years. And they have been obfuscating it having imported workers play down their position. why pay an American electrical engineer the standard salary when you can claim an immigrant electrical engineer is merely an apprentice. When I said that we are in competition with each other I just did not mean people in America. I meant with everyone in the world. We need to take new approaches to keep U.S. citizens from being marginalized by their own country Drug Policy Legalizing Marijuana and hemp would not only create more jobs here but also in Mexico and South America. More jobs below the border means less northern migration and less salary impact on jobs here. Foreign Policy Mexicans come here because their government is neglecting and abusing them. We need to confront Mexico on the ways they drice people north, At the same time we have to minimalize damage to the Mexican economy by pushing trade reform. Enforcement of Existing Laws Typically when a worksite is raided for illegal immigrants it becomes a round up of brown people. In many if not most cases the employer is knowingly breaking the law hiring people with false or no documentation y making arrest at the top we can increase the demand for US citizens in the workforce Taxpayer Dividends There is probably a legitimate need for business to bring both skilled and unskilled workers to the US. Lets make them pay for it. If a company wants work visas we'll make them invest in grants and or scholarships that will give more aamericans the skills to fit that companys needs
