TRANSCRIPT
I form my position on issues by listenening to opposing points
of view
And then figuring out how to reconcile any incompatibilities.
Listed below are the Twitter-able results of the process.
Longer explanations will be linked as I put together edu-taining ways
to explain them.
GUN CONTROL
D) Some guns are okay for hunting.
R) Guns are a cultural right.
NIL) Citizens need to have enough guns to intimidate the government.
DRUG POLICY
D) The war on Drugs is bad but changing policy is worse (for some
reason).
R) Drugs are bad and no matter how obvious of a failure current policy
is we should throw money at the problem until it's successful.
NIL) The war on drugs is the prohibition all over again.
Decriminilazation for hard drugs. Legalization for marijuana.
ENVIROMENT
D)They'll reduce emissions as much as the energy lobbies allow.
R} Global Warming was made up by Al Gore.
NIL) This is unfortunately a job for government regulation.
MILITARY INTERVENTIONALISM
D) Policy is decided balancing looking strong and placating their
liberal base.
R) We must stop evil around the world unless there isn't any money to
be made.
NIL) If it isn't Genocide it's probably not justified. If it is
Genocide proceed with caution.
IMMIGRATION
D) We need a path to citizenship.
R) If someone's here illegally then kick them out.
NIL) This issue is caused by industry lowering demand for labor by
increasing supply. Also the Mexican Government needs to be held
accountable for the condition of their people.
TAXES
D) Keep our current tax system and add
behavior modifying consumption taxes.
R) Consumption Tax or Flat Tax.
NIL) Consumption Tax but without the loop
holes for big business
WELFARE
D) Give money to anyone who needs it.
R) Giving money to industry okay but not people.
NIL) Any company receiving government moneymust be on a profit sharing
model with all levels of the company.
LGBT RIGHTS
D) Discrimination is bad but policy has to change in baby steps.
R) Discrimination is bad but the behavior should be illegal.
NIL) As long as you are with another consensual adult it is none of the
governments business who you are having sex with.
ABORTION
D) Rare but legal.
R) Somewhere between never and almost never.
NIL) Rare but not with taxpayer money.
AGRIBUSINESS
D) Passes legislation friendly to agribusiness.
R) Same as Dems but also wants to strip "Organic" label of meaning.
NIL) Favors local (family farms) and sustainable food.
THE GLORIOUS RETURN OF THE GOLD STANDARD
D) What?
R) Who?
NIL) We need to back our money up. No more putting it on the credit
card,
SOCIAL JUSTICE
D) Racism still exist,
R) Racism is (pretty much) over,
NIL) Racism still exist but it isn't the only factor in marginalizing
the poor and depleting the middle class.
HEALTH CARE
D) Sweeping reform or nothing
R Increase competition by allowing out of state insurance
NIL) Let's not use a hatchet, lets use a scalpel. Clever legislation
can give us a capitalist solution that doesn't reward denying coverage.
LEGISLATIVE REFORM
D) Longer bills allow more pork.
R) Debate should end with the vote.
NIL) Any law not good enough to be and amendment should have an
expiration date, laws should not be more than ten pages and
reconciliation should be abolished.
